FAQ

What is The Food Studio’s Commitment to the Health and Safety of our students and employees during COVID-19?

Like so many of you, we have spent the past months learning about COVID-19 and how it’s impacting our community.  Here at The Food Studio, that means understanding how it affects our environment and then making the necessary adjustments to our work and operations.  We have one objective that guides us:  keeping our students and employees safe.

Manitoba’s Pandemic and Economic Roadmap for Recovery and its guidelines align with and support Provincial Health and Food Safety standards.  In our school, we use approved food grade sanitizers. Hand washing stations are present and sanitized frequently. Gloves will be available, but will not replace frequent hand washing in accordance to Manitoba Health Standards.  All utensils and cooking tools are run through commercial grade dishwashers and environments including workstations, counters, handles, tables and chairs are cleaned both during and after every use.  We fully align with all guidelines published by the Manitoba Department of Health.  All of our teams are trained on the importance of safe food handling and leaders are certified by the Province of Manitoba.

Employees have been informed of and encouraged to self-monitor for signs of sickness. If they have been in contact with someone who has been sick they are asked to stay home.  We ask and expect the same of our class attendees.

Guests and employees will be required to wash or sanitize their hands upon arrival.  Guest and employees are also encouraged to practice social distancing during the class.

Please note that in the event that we are unable to host classes inside our cooking school we will prepare the ingredients for pick up at our location and send you the recipes and equipment list, so that you can cook along with us via the comfort of your home kitchen.

We will continue to make changes to our protocols and procedures based on Federal and Manitoba Health advisories.

What is The Food Studio’s Cancellation Policy?

Cooking classes are non-refundable. Please understand that a lot of time and resources go into the advance preparation for a successful class. In the event that you are unable to attend, you are welcome to transfer your registration to another guest of your choice.

The Food Studio does not cancel classes due to weather.  If The Food Studio cancels a class, you will receive a credit to be used toward another class and be notified as soon as possible.

Will I be able to enjoy an adult beverage during class?

We offer wine, beer and soda for purchase for any class held at The Food Studio.  All of our Dining Around the World classes include one glass of wine or beer per person with registration. During our “Wine Pairing” classes, which serve wine/beer/liquor pairings as part of the menu, we do not sell additional wine/beer since there is plenty to try during class. No outside food or drink is permitted in class.

Please be prepared to show your valid ID if you or any of your registered guests plan to consume any alcoholic beverages. The Studio’s policy is to card everyone.

What is included in the class fee?

The class fee includes instruction, printed recipes and tasting portions of everything on the menu.

What should I wear to class?

We recommend comfortable clothes and closed toe shoes, and perhaps layers since things can heat up in the kitchen!  We’ll provide aprons for all participation classes.

I have a group of six or more people. May we take the class together?

Yes! You can register up to a maximum of 9 guests per class.  However, given the limited space and popularity of our classes, we may not always have the space available.  Booking early is one option.  Our class calendars are published by the first of each preceding month.  If you have ten or more guests, a private cooking experience is the way to go.  We offer private experiences on a date of your choice.  Please contact us directly to learn about our group/corporate team options at 204 888-3663 or contact us at www.foodstudio.net under the Private Events or Contact Us tab to obtain more details.

Kids cooking classes – do parents attend?

Seats in our kids and teens cooking classes are for kids only ages 8–12 and teens ages 13-17, unless otherwise stated in the class description.  Parents will be asked to fill out an emergency information form for each child.  No parent required….enjoy your free time, parents!

The Food Studio also offers classes which are for kids ages 6-10 accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Each participant (parent/guardian and kid) must register separately. This information is noted within the class description.

Do you have age requirements for your cooking classes?

Unless noted in the class description, kids ages 14-17 are welcome to attend a class with an adult who is 18 years or older.  Two seats will need to be purchased to do so. For participation classes, participants will be using heating elements and sharp cooking utensils, and must be tall enough to comfortably reach counter and stove tops to get the full class experience.  If you have questions, please call us and we can help you determine if the class is the right fit.

Note: We have kids cooking classes geared specifically for ages 8–12 years of age as well as teen classes for ages 13-17!  You can view the Kid Programming options here

Can I register someone for a class as a gift?

A Food Studio Gift Certificate is the best way to give classes as gifts!  This allows your recipient(s) to select classes that best suit their schedules and interests.  Gift cards are available in any amount and can be purchased online or by visiting or calling our location.

Can you accommodate special dietary needs?

While we try to accommodate dietary restrictions as much as possible, it is necessary to know what those restrictions are prior to class.  You are welcome to eat around parts of the menu, but unfortunately, we are unable to make singular adjustments to the recipes in our public classes. We do, however, offer many classes each month that suit various dietary restrictions such as vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free or shellfish allergies. Please contact us for assistance in finding the right class!

Parking

For public classes, there is dedicated parking in front of our building.  There is also plenty of street parking on Cathcart Street.

For special events, we have made arrangements with our commercial neighbours for the use of their parking lots.  Each event will have specialized parking arrangements.
